LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The Speaker of the Michigan House, Tom Leonard is telling the MIRS news service that Michigan State University should be investigated for its handling of Dr. Larry Nassar and President Lou Anna Simon should immediately resign.
Leonard says he was angry and immediately suspicious when he heard that the University had conducted an internal investigation, but that no report had been produced.
He says the independence the State Constitution affords to Universities might make it difficult for them to conduct an investigation, but it would not prevent them from making inquiries around budget time.
He does think some agency, the Attorney General, or the State Police or some federal agency should put people under oath and start asking questions.
Leonard, who is running for Attorney General, is joining gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer and the Democrats who are running for AG in calling for a deeper probe.
