SOUTH HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The South Bend Chamber Singers won’t be forgetting their latest trip to South Haven anytime soon.
The charter bus that transported the group north to a performance at Peace Lutheran Church off of the Blue Star Highway caught fire during their performance last night. According to the South Haven Area Emergency Services, the unnamed bus driver was attempting to move the bus around 8:35 p.m. when he noticed the flames coming from the rear of the vehicle. He attempted to bring the blaze under control with an on-board extinguisher but failed, and it took responding SHAES crews several minutes to douse the fire that had engulfed the rear of the vehicle when they arrived.
There were no reports of any injuries, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Another bus by the contracted charter carrier was dispatched to take the singers back to their Indiana home.
