PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage Police have released the name of the 38-year-old man who was mortally injured when his 2011 Ford Focus left US 131 near U Avenue and struck a tree in the median, at about 11:00 am Friday.
Dead is Schoolcraft resident Michael Joseph Wood.
Rescue crews worked for 40-minutes, prying apart the wreckage to free Wood.
He was taken to Bronson Methodist for emergency surgery.’
That evening it was announced that he had not survived his injuries. They are trying to determine why he left the roadway.
