KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — When temperatures dip as low as they have been in West Michigan, especially at night, exposure for just 15 to 30 minutes can cause frostbite.
Emergency Room Physicians say try to leave as little exposed skin as possible if you will be spending any time outdoors.
Protect your fingers, toes, ears and cheeks and even your nose. That means hats, gloves and scarves are essential, and that is after you bundle up, dressing in layers, to keep out the wind.
It’s the wind that really makes the cold air dangerous.
It is particularly important that precautions be taken by the very young, those over 65-years-of age, people with medical problems and everyone who cares for them, because those people are more susceptible to the cold.
