LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The public comment period on a five-year Wildlife Division Strategic Plan being formulated by the state Department of Natural Resources is underway. The Guiding Principles and Strategies proposal, which will run through 2020, gives the agency directions for managing Michigan’s wildlife resources, with 13 specific issues highlighted, including population and habitat management, land access and use, balancing economic development with preservation, and hunting concerns. This is the second such Strategic Plan that the DNR has created, using an approach based on stakeholder “engagement” similar to the first blueprint created in 2010. The new plan, with directions as to how to comment, is here, with a January 22nd deadline for comments.
