LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Attorney General’s Office has opted to file felony charges against former state representatives Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser. The announcement was made by Attorney General Bill Schuette on Friday afternoon.
Gamrat will face two counts of misconduct in office. If convicted, the charges carry a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Courser will face a count of perjury and three counts of misusing his office. The charge, if he’s convicted of perjury, carries a 15-year prison sentence.
The conservative Republicans were accused of using taxpayer resources to cover up a bizarre sex scandal.
Courser, from Lapeer, resigned. Gamrat, from Plainwell, was expelled.
