KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Commissioners want ideas from the public on how to spend the $39 million they are getting from the American Rescue Plan.
That comes after initial discussions began last week during a virtual Committee of the Whole meeting.
In order to better understand area suggestions, officials are preparing a poll. The money was approved by Congress so that it could be used to pay for local inoculation clinics and to relieve the economic problems created by the pandemic, and the need for more broadband.
City Manager Jim Ritsema says the questionnaire will help focus the input they get.
“Our goal is to launch the survey on Friday, June 18, with the intent of giving people 30 days to complete,” Ritsema said.
In other words, residents will have a month to submit their survey responses starting this Friday.
Staff will make the survey accessible online and distribute hard copies at 20 locations around the city.
“Additionally, people calling 3-1-1, our call center, will be directed to an online survey, or they can receive a hard copy by mail if needed,” Ritsema added.
They have already received a number of unformatted suggestions, and will also continue to accept those.
Commissioners have said in recent weeks that they have already received communications from area residents regarding the fund usage.
