LANSING, MI (WLMI) — Michigan State Police say they are well aware of the daily traffic snarls at US-127 and I-496 in Lansing. The backups are typically during morning and afternoon rush hours, but police say they can pop up at anytime.
MSP say a recent jump in traffic accidents in the area is typically the result of aggressive driving and often road rage. They remind motorists to expect heavy traffic in the area and slow down.
The US-127 and I-496 interchange has been notorious for traffic accidents. MDOT officials have tried different traffic patterns to reduce the number of accidents.
The road pattern as people drive into the Capital City has been described as confusing to some, especially out of towners. Mutliple exits, including a clunky Trowbridge exit on South US-127 has the potential to trip up drivers.
The area has also seen a rash of wrong-way driver accidents through the years.
