This is National Play Clean and Go Week. We’ve heard the phrase ‘play clean and go’ before from the NRCS of Southwest Michigan but it’s a timely reminder right now as people who’ve been cooped up for a long time are ready to play as they go outdoors.
Play Clean and Go aims to make recreationists aware of invasive species of pests and plants that can hitch a ride on various items and cause significant damage to native plants, species and crops. Advice from USDA includes the importance of cleaning gear, clothes, even pets before and after exploring. An important item here in Michigan involves draining and cleaning and drying of watercraft.
And also, again the reminder don’t bring wood along with you for the campfire – or take it home. Keeping yourself and your equipment free of unwanted hitchhikers can help ensure many pleasant summers to come.
