Farmers having coverage under most crop insurance policies can qualify for a USDA premium benefit if they planted cover crops this season.
You might want to check out the Risk Management Agency’s Pandemic Cover Crop program. The program helps farmers maintain their cover crop systems despite financial challenges due to COVID-19. It offers premium support to those insuring their spring crop with most policies if they planted a qualifying cover crop in 2021. The premium support is $5 per acre, but no more than the full premium owed.
All cover crops reportable to the Farm Service Agency are eligible and include cereals, grasses, and legumes along with mixtures of two or more cover crop species planted at the same time.
