LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – June has brought what seems like a near return to normal from over a year of COVID-19 related restrictions in Michigan. As of yesterday, capacity limits are lifted for outdoor events and residential gatherings. Indoor capacity limits have increased to 50% and face masks are only required for those who are not fully vaccinated indoors.
But Congresswoman Debbie Dingell says that as things loosen up, it’s important not to assume the pandemic is over.
“We are not where we need to be so that everyone in the community is safe. So I urge you, please go get vaccinated. It’s what you do for your family, your friends, your colleagues, and your neighborhood.”
Health officials say we need at least 70-percent of the population vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. As of Tuesday, over 8.3 million vaccines have been administered in Michigan.
And new COVID-19 cases continue to fall sharply. Tuesday’s report, which included data from Saturday through Monday, showed there were only 862 new cases of the virus reported in the state during those three days.
