LANSING (WKZO) — Organ donation in Michigan has hit an historic milestone with nearly half of all adults in the state now registered as organ donors. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says 1.8-million people signed up to give the gift of life in the past four years.
Four years ago, Johnson says, only 27-percent of eligible adults had signed up to be organ donors and Michigan was near the bottom of the list nationally. She says that every name on the registry means hope for the 34-hundred people in Michigan still waiting for a life-saving or life-enhancing transplant.
