LANSING (WKZO) — Michigan State Police are now working with the Federal Aviation Administration on the use of drones in support of police efforts.
MSP revealed the testing late Tuesday afternoon, noting they purchased an unmanned aircraft system in September 2013 and received authorization from the FAA last February to conduct training flights near the department’s Training Academy. The FAA is expected to be in the state in the near future to review the request by MSP to fly the Aeryon SkyRanger statewide.
Officials say possible missions could include search and rescue operations along with crime scene and crash investigations.
