DETROIT (WKZO) — The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld sanctions against a former Michigan assistant attorney general.
The ruling is the latest setback for Andrew Shirvell who came under fire for his social media and blog attacks against the first gay student body president at the University of Michigan. Shirvell was fired in 2010 by then-Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox following the anti-gay postings.
The court’s most recent ruling upheld a 3.5-million dollar judgment awarded by the jury against Shirvell. Last month the state appeals court determined he wasn’t eligible for unemployment benefits after being fired.
