LANSING (WKZO) — Democrats in the House and Senate are calling for a new law requiring businesses in Michigan to offer paid sick leave to employees. Bills have been introduced in both chambers to allow people to accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked.
Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich of Flint says no one should be forced to choose between caring for a sick family member or earning a paycheck if they have a job. Representative Stephanie Chang of Detroit notes it’s also a public health issue, as people without paid sick days feel forced to go to work when they’re ill, putting others at risk of catching their illness.
