LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The state Court of Appeals has overturned the conviction of Antonio Lewis in the death of his half-brother Ivory Shaver the Third near Covert nearly five years ago. The panel ordered a new trial for the now-39-year-old man, saying that Van Buren County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Brickley erred when she refused Lewis’ request to represent himself. A jury found him guilty of second-degree murder, and Brickley sentenced Lewis to 30 to 80 years in prison. No new trial date has been set.
