LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Efforts to increase the number of “snow days” school districts can call in Michigan without having to make up the lost class time at the end of the academic year are being made in the state Legislature. Republican Representative Phil Potvin of Cadillac sponsored the bill in the wake of two straight harsh winters that has made many districts cancel classes more than the allowable six times. Opponents of the bill say that there are other ways already being done to make up time without extending the year.
