UP State Lawmaker Wants Local Communities to Get First Dibs on Surplus MDOT Equipment

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Legislation that would mandate all surplus M-DOT equipment be made available first to local municipalities has been introduced in the state House. Scott Dianda says that aging snow plows and salt trucks are plaguing northern Michigan communities, and the Calumet Democrat’s bill would give auction preference to such entities for five days before the bidding would be open to the general public. Similar legislation cleared the House last year but was ignored by the Senate.
