Effort underway to help pre-schoolers get off to the right start in their education

KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A child begins to learn long before his first day in school and a nationwide effort to recognize that fact is being boosted locally.

This week, Kalamazoo City and County Commissioners officially declared that they are “Talking is Teaching” communities.

The concept is simple: to make sure that preschoolers are stimulated long before they see their first classroom.

Dave Campbell with K-RESA says it’s up to the family to get them off to a good start.

Kalamazoo’s Great Start Collaborative is planning a series of literacy walks in the coming months.
