LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A bill introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives would allow the Michigan Department of Transportation to change how it inspects bridges. Owosso Republican Ben Glardon’s legislation would allow the agency to look at spans based on risk, rather than on mandatory two-year increments.
A state Auditor General report last month indicated around 35 late inspections on state-owned bridges, and some spans that were structurally deficient were not looked at enough. M-DOT says this bill will increase its efficiency and these inspections’ effectiveness.
