HARTFORD, MI (WHTC) – A vehicle and a motorcycle were involved in a crash yesterday evening in Van Buren County. Sheriff Dale Gribler reports that on Friday, May 8th, a 56 year old resident of Lawrence, Michigan by the name of Chester Shirely was riding his motorcycle near the corner of 84th Avenue and Second Street in Hartford. Another vehicle tried to merge into Shirely’s lane and he was knocked off the motorcycle. The vehicle was driven by 18 year old Laura Bailey of Coloma. Shirely was not wearing a helmet at the time and sustained multiple head injuries. He was transported to Lakeland Community Hospital and is listed in stable but serious condition. Deputies are investigating to see if alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
