BOYNE CITY, MI (WHTC) – Kathleen Berden of Sanilac County will represent Michigan Republicans nationally.
She won on a second ballot over South Haven’s Mary Whiteford, after Plainwell House Representative Cindy Gamrat was knocked out in the first ballot. Berden will complete the final year of a four-year term that began with Terry Lynn Land and continued with Ronna Romney McDaniel. Grandville’s Dave Agema is the National Committeeman, who has refused calls from the top of the Republican Party to resign over social media posts that have been criticized by some on both sides of the political aisle as homophobic and racist. Gamrat was supported in her successful legislative bid last year by Agema, defeating Whiteford in the GOP primary to see who would replace term-limited Bob Genetski in the legislature.
