LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Legislation to compensate those wrongly imprisoned in Michigan has been reintroduced in the state Senate. The bill by suburban Detroit Democrat Steve Bieda would give those mistakenly sent behind bars $60,000 for every year served as a way to help them get back on their feet in society.
This bill had been defeated in previous years due to the state’s budget crunch, but this time around, some leading Republicans, including Judiciary Committee Chairman Rick Jones, (R-Grand Ledge) are supporting it.
