Unions Balk Over MDOT Putting Techs Behind Snow Plows

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The Michigan State Employees Association and the Service Employees International Union claim that M-DOT’s new specifications for a transportation technician could cost more money than it would save. Under the new rules, such staffers could be used as snowplow drivers and would need to have a commercial driver’s license. Only seven of the state’s 700 transportation techs have those licenses, according to the two unions. MDOT officials counter to MIRS News that this can be addressed “down the road.”
