DEARBORN, MI (WTVB) – It’s going to be a busy travel weekend as the summer season unofficially kicks off in Michigan. AAA Michigan is forecasting more than 1.1 million Michiganders will travel 50 miles or more during the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, nearly five percent higher than the just over one million in 2014.
It will be the highest travel volume in eight years, helped in part by an average gas price of $2.74 per gallon, a 98-cent drop from 12 months ago. More than 90 percent of those leaving home will be hitting the road, with travel by boat, train and buses expected to fall 3.4 percent.
