DETROIT, MI (WHTC) – A Wayne State University Transportation Research Group study for the Michigan Department of Transportation found that, since rumble strips were installed on 5,700 miles of rural two-lane, high-speed state highways in Michigan seven years ago, there have been 47 percent fewer crashes and a 51-percent drop in fatal collisions.
Annually, the strips are expected to eliminate 337 crashes, save 16 lives, and prevent 62 serious injuries, with an estimated total safety benefit of more than $79 million over three years.
