LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A Third Grade Reading Workgroup, convened in March to research solutions for rapidly improving early literacy statewide, presented their report to Governor Snyder. Among the recommendations were: Increasing classroom time on reading comprehension; assessing reading skills often; and intervening with additional strategies as early as possible. More than 48 million dollars for 3rd Grade reading initiatives was included in the “School Bus” Fiscal 2016 proposed budget.
