LANSING, MI (WHTC) Funding for the Michigan Film Office would end on October 1st, 2016 under legislation now before the state Senate.
A committee passed the bill yesterday to eliminate the film incentives and eliminate the office, which would make Michigan the only state in the country without a film office or commission.
Republicans say they’re trying to prioritize spending on roads and may revisit the program at a later time. Annual reports filed with the Michigan Film Office show that the movie and TV industry has spent over one-point-three-billion dollars in the state and received over 450-million dollars in incentives since 2008.
