LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Surprising some Lansing observers, the state Senate approved a $1.4 billion annual road funding package before taking a five-day Independence Day holiday break. Two key components needed the vote of Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley to pass, including a 15-cent incremental gas tax hike through the end of next year, along with a measure that will level both gas and diesel levies at 34 cents per gallon.
A total of eight bills cleared the Senate. The House had passed its own road bill last month, and a conference committee looms.
