LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Financial help for tornado-stricken Ionia County is on its way from Lansing after Governor Snyder declared a state of disaster. It stems from a sudden twister that touched down in Portland and vicinity, causing extensive damage to many structures, although no injuries or fatalities were reported. The declaration from the Governor activates various state resources that local officials can access, and is a necessary step towards getting federal disaster assistance
