LANSING, MI (WHTC) – In reports filed with the Michigan Secretary of State’s office, state Senate Republicans raised nearly 314 thousand dollars for the three-month period that ended on July 20th. They were followed by House Republicans at 207 thousand, House Democrats at 180 thousand and Senate Democrats 102 thousand. All of those numbers were down from what the parties gathered in the previous quarter. The total cash balance for the two parties’ legislative war chest is around 2.7 million dollars.
Among individual lawmakers, state Senator Margaret O’Brien raised the most money of any legislator. The Portage Republican brought in over 63 thousand dollars. Mike Callton, a Nashville Republican, topped the House at more than 54 thousand, while East Lansing state Senator Curtis Hertel Junior led all Democrats at 42 thousand dollars plus. MIRS News reports 10 lawmakers missed Monday’s filing deadline, including Representative Cindy Gamrat of Plainwell.
