ST. JOSEPH, MI (WHTC) – A funeral service was today in St. Joseph for former state lawmaker Harry Gast, who died last Thursday at age 94. Flags were flown at half-staff across Michigan in honor of the long-time Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman who was term-limited out of office in 2002 after 32 years in the Legislature, 24 in the Senate and 18 as committee chair. Critics say that Mr. Gast symbolized a “career politician,” as he was a Lincoln Township Board member for 25 years before going to Lansing.
