Civil War-Era Cannons Back on State Capitol Lawn

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Two Civil War era-style Parrott cannons have been installed on the state Capitol lawn and will be fired during renactment ceremonies tomorrow commemorating the 150^th anniversary of the end of the War Between the States. State senators Mike Kowall and Steve Bieda led a two-year, privately-funded campaign that raised 47 thousand dollars to replace the original cannons from a Michigan-based battery during the Civil War that were taken down and probably melted as scrap during World War II.
