SANDUSKY, OH (WTVB) – A roller coaster accident Thursday afternoon killed a man at the Cedar Point amusement park. Authorities in Sandusky, Ohio say the victim entered a restricted, fenced area to search for a cell phone and other items he dropped while he was riding the Raptor roller coaster.
45-year old James Young of East Canton, Ohio was struck after jumping the fence around 5 pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Because of the accident, the ride had to be stopped and many riders found themselves suspended in mid-air as rescue crews responded.
Park officials released a statement announcing the death and expressing condolences to the family. Local authorities are conducting an investigation.
