LANSING, MI (WHTC) – State lawmakers head back to Lansing on Tueday after a summer break. While the Senate is back for the fall, the House only holds three sessions this week before taking another two-week hiatus until after Labor Day. The Lower Chamber may attempt to draft a road funding compromise that could pass the Senate, with majority GOP leaders working on securing the needed 55 votes during this current recess. The Senate will be taking on other issues while waiting for the House to act.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the House, where Representatives Cindy Gamrat of Plainwell and Todd Courser of Lapeer are expected to be on hand for the start of three session days this week. The two freshmen Republicans publicly expressed remorse for their adulterous affair that was exposed 10 days ago, but neither are planning to resign their seats, as many are calling on them to do. The House Business Office and the state police are investigating whether public funds or laws were violated in an attempt to cover their affair up.
