State Tourism Lobby Touts Survey Supporting Post-Labor Day School Opening

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Considering that it was commissioned by the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association, a survey of more than a thousand likely voters showed 72 percent support for keeping public schools in Michigan from starting classes before Labor Day. Many districts have been asking lawmakers to rescind the law, citing various reasons, but the latest effort to turn back the 10-year-old law last year was buried in a House committee. Michigan is one of 12 states with such legislation.
