JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Sheriff’s deputies in Cass County made two arrests early Sunday morning after items were reported stolen from a barn.
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke says the theft happened in the 28000 block of Dunning St. at around 2:00 a.m. in Jefferson Township. Police officers in Edwardsburg noticed a suspicious van towing a golf cart, with a person on it, at M-62 near Oil City Rd. The vehicle took off and led a chase, causing the golf cart to detach and crash. The van eventually crashed into a trailer at Eagle Lake Estates in Ontwa Township.
The male driver and female passenger took off on foot, but the man was apprehended in a shed approximately 100 yards away. The female was later found as well. The subject in the golf cart also took off on foot and was located by a Sheriff K-9 hiding in a yard near the golf cart.
The golf cart was discovered to be stolen along with other items that were recovered.
The 49-year-old male driver was arrested for Larceny from a Building and several other charges and the 36-year-old male accomplice was arrested for Larceny from a Building and several other charges. The deputies will be requesting charges on the 35-year-old female. The names of the individuals are being withheld pending formal arraignment in court.
