BOSTON, MA (WKZO AM/FM) – Rafael Devers drove in three runs as the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 12-9 at Fenway Park Thursday afternoon.
Alex Verdugo and JD Martinez each had a pair of RBI in the win, Boston’s second-in-three games. Matt Andriese picked up the win in relief as Adam Ottavino nailed down his first save of the year.
Wilson Ramos and Harold Castro each had a pair of RBI for Detroit, which has dropped seven-of-eight.
Alex Lange surrendered two unearned runs in relief to take the loss, his first. The Tigers committed four errors which resulted in seven unearned runs.
The Tigers return home to host the Minnesota Twins after going the 2-and-7 on their nine game road trip. Tarik Skubal gets the nod for Detroit in tonight’s opener against Minnesota’s Matt Shoemaker.The opening pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT.
The Tigers have placed relief pitcher Derek Holland on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder strain. Holland has been struggling this season, allowing 13 runs on 16 hits in nine innings. Detroit called up pitcher Kyle Funkhouser from the taxi squad to fill the roster spot.
