CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two suspects, both accused of breaking and entering, are in custody following an arrest that was made Saturday.
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Marshall Post investigated a breaking and entering of multiple storage sheds in 22000 block of O Drive North in Lee Township, where various tools, equipment, fuel and other construction equipment were stolen.
This incident was reported by the homeowners on April 24 around 1:30 p.m.
After leaving the scene, troopers were notified that the suspects returned to the area, but were confronted by the homeowners and left the scene. An area broadcast was immediately put out by dispatch describing the suspects and their vehicle.
Troopers were able to locate the vehicle on eastbound I-94 near mile marker #113 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. When the suspects refused to stop, a short pursuit took place, but ended shortly after suspects ramped off at exit #115.
After running a stop sign at 22 ½ Mile Rd, the suspects lost control and collided into a ditch.
Troopers say the driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a muddy field. After a short chase, they were caught and taken into custody without incident.
Both suspects were charged and lodged at the Calhoun County jail.
The Chevy pickup truck the suspects were driving was reported stolen by the Eaton County Sheriff Department. The vehicle will be turned over to that unit for further investigation.
The driver, a 23-year-old man from Springfield, was charged with the following:
- Breaking & Entering;
- Receiving & concealing stolen property;
- Parole Violation;
- Resisting & Obstructing a Police Officer, and
- Flee & Eluding 4th Degree.
Additional charges will also be sought, according to police.
The passenger, 18-year-old man from Battle Creek, was charged with the following:
- Breaking & Entering;
