PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The treasurer for the 6th District Republican Party, Jason Watts, told WWMT and MLive Tuesday that at least eight members have tested positive for COVID-19 after a meeting at a restaurant in Portage.
Watts, of Allegan County, told WWMT that he tested positive on April 1, and was hospitalized on April 8. The meeting had taken place on March 25 at the Traveler’s Cafe and Pub in Portage.
He also said there were at least eight attendees that he knew of who had also tested positive, four of which were seated at his table during the meeting.
In total, Watts told news outlets there were about 69 people in attendance, and only about three of which he saw wearing masks. Watts noted that he was uncomfortable with attending the event, but that there was no virtual option offered.
Watts himself was discharged on April 13.
