MATTAWAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Van Buren County authorities say a chase on I-94 reached speeds up to 110 mph early Tuesday.
Sheriff Daniel Abbott says they received reports of a reckless driver at around 1:45 a.m. near Lawrence. After locating the vehicle near the I-94 Paw Paw exit, a chase began. Stop sticks were successfully deployed and a deputy saw a handgun tossed out of a window before the driver stopped just south of Mattawan.
The driver and three passengers were all detained and the gun was recovered. They included two passengers, a 15-year-old male and an 18-year-old female from Kalamazoo, and another teenage passenger who became combative as deputies were trying to contact her family. No information about the driver has been released, other than that they had an expired driver’s license.
Several charges are likely to be filed related to the incident.
