ST. JOSEPH, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Rescue crews spent Sunday evening trying to locate a person who went missing in the waters of Lake Michigan.
It happened on Silver Beach in Berrien County near the city of St. Joseph. Police said two men had been swept off a pier at around 5:30 p.m.. One of the men was able to get back to safety with the help of a friend. But rescue attempts for the other man were not successful. Now attempts are being made to find and recover his body.
Both men were from the area and are said to be in their late 20s, but their names have not been released.
Officials say it’s important to stay off piers anytime waves are splashing on them due to the increased risk that you may slip and fall.
