KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Western Michigan Broncos men’s basketball team will be heading the Netherlands, Belgium and France for a series of exhibition games this month.
Western is slated to play four contests against club and professional squads during their European tour.
Head Coach Steve Hawkins says the experience will be critical for his young team.
“Eight of our 14 players are going to be freshmen,” Hawkins said. “We got in two practices this week and we’ll get in four this week and four next week before we head out.”
The NCAA allows teams to take summer trips abroad once every four years, Hawkins said.
The team will leave Kalamazoo on August 21.
