PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials in Van Buren County have released their list of the most popular dog breeds licensed in the area during 2019.
According to the county treasurer’s office Chihuahuas were the most popular breed in 2019. Other popular varieties included German shepherds, Labrador retrievers, Pit bulls, and Labrador mixes.
Popular names for man’s best friend were Bella, Buddy, Max, Lucy, and Daisey based off of data collected from those adopting dogs this year.
The county says that it issued 6,000 dog licenses total during the year, which is required by county and state law.
Owners in Van Buren County are being reminded to purchase a license for their dog by March 1st if they haven’t already done so. Licenses can be obtained with a fee depending on their dog’s neutering status at the county treasurer’s office, or at Van Buren County Animal Control’s location.
