KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Kalamazoo is preparing for the tenth annual installment of Kalamazoo Beer Week (KBW), which is set to begin this Saturday, Jan. 11.
Since 2011, KBW has only grown in popularity, which includes participation from many different bars and breweries. Several establishments present their own beer-related events, which can range from paired dinners to beer yoga.
Currently, over 120 events are planned throughout the week.
Some of the events beginning on January 11th will include a walking tour of downtown Kalamazoo breweries, an official kickoff pub crawl, and a charity event for the Western Michigan University Sustainable Brewing program.
KBW was originally started in 2011 by local distributor Imperial Beverage. It was later taken over by Discover Kalamazoo, who currently manages KBW.
New for this year, citizens can participate in the “Give a Craft Beer Program,” where citizens earn stamps from breweries on a special passport to earn KBW prizes.
“For the past ten years, we have seen significant growth in the craft beer industry throughout the Kalamazoo region. Discover Kalamazoo has invested in the promotion of craft beer as one of many reasons to discover Kalamazoo,” Discover Kalamazoo President and CEO Greg Ayers said in a statement. “We are excited to be the presenting sponsor of this annual event.”
More information, including a full list of KBW events, can be found online at https://www.kalamazoobeerweek.com/.
Kalamazoo Beer Week will run from Saturday, Jan. 11 through Sunday, January 19.
