KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo teen is in custody after he attempted to rob a homeowner while using a fake gun.
It happened just after 2:15 a.m. Monday at a home in the 100 block of Burr Oak Street near South Burdick Street in Kalamazoo’s Vine Neighborhood.
The residents said they heard a noise outside and opened the door to find the suspect pointing a handgun at them. He then entered the apartment and began searching until the resident noticed it was a fake gun, confronted and disarmed the teen, and held him down until police arrived.
Public Safety officers arrested the 18-year-old suspect on a variety of felony charges. No residents were harmed but the teen suffered minor injuries during the altercation.
