KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day is also known as National Day of Racial Healing, a day to recognize the actions still needed to further equality.
This is the 4th annual National Day of Racial Healing put on by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. According to their website, the day is “rooted in experiences for truth telling and trust building that lead to racial healing for a more just and equitable future. Racial healing is not only important, it is essential. Because healing is at the heart of racial equity.”
Observances are taking place throughout the country including one in Kalamazoo, put on by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation effort.
Racial healing circles will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday January 21st at the Girl Scouts Building at the corner of West Maple Street and Crosstown Parkway to bring diverse people together to discuss personal racial narratives and trauma caused by racism. Healing circles are on a first-come, first-serve basis with each healing circle having a capacity of 20 individuals. Those interested can sign up here.
Then at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, a community celebration will be held at the same location with featured speakers, artists, and more.
