BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The online gambling company Scientific Games is reported to be in partnership with Calhoun County’s FireKeepers Casino, making it placed to become one of the first in the state to offer digital sports betting.
The practice was legalized at the end of 2019, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed The Lawful Sports Betting Act which allows tribal casinos to offer the games.
FireKeepers CEO Kathy George says the new games would help the casino further its goal of making it a regional entertainment destination. The casino has been busy preparing for the lawmakers to move on the issue, even setting up a transition team nearly a year ago to prepare for possible implementation of the new games.
On-site sports gambling however will be the first service offered at FireKeepers, as the casino waits for more regulations to be put in place for online gambling by state officials and the gambling control board. The betting will take place in a part of the casino known as Dacey’s Taproom, where dozens of TV screens with gaming options line the perimeter.
Firekeepers says they also plan to install self-betting kiosks for quick and speedy service for gamblers.
