BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek officials say a cooking fire was the cause of a blaze at a multi-unit housing complex.
Crews were called to 41 South 22nd Street, south of West Territorial Road around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday where they located the kitchen fire in the first end unit that was spreading to the rest of the home.
18 firefighters and 1 Battalion Chief responded to the scene. Firefighters searched to make sure no residents were still inside and quickly extinguished the bulk of the fire.
The first unit suffered extensive damage and the unit next door had some smoke damage.
Residents affected were taken care of by the Red Cross and there were no reports of injuries.
