KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo restaurants are preparing for the 15th annual Chili Cook-Off in the downtown area as a lead-up to Kalamazoo Restaurant Week.
The Chili Cook-Off is an event that is always free to the public. Over 40 establishments will be competing for the number one spot.
While the event itself is free, participants can also purchase a $5 commemorative tasting spoon. They will be available at the starting point inside Consumers Credit Union downtown or the Radisson Hotel. At these points, maps and information about the event will also be provided.
Citizens can participate in a game called Chili Bingo for a chance to win free merchandise.
As the event progresses, citizens will be able to vote on their favorite chili to see who takes home the crown for the best recipe.
Some establishments will be utilizing downtown Kalamazoo businesses as an outlet for their chili tasting, such as the Kalamazoo Pit Posse, who will be posted up inside of Morrison Jewelers.
Kalamazoo Pit Posse were the winners of the 2019 competition, while Louie’s Trophy House won the Judge’s Choice award. Louie’s will also be returning as a competitor.
The event begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, and will continue until about 2 p.m. or while the chili supplies last.
More information, including a full list of participants, can be viewed online at https://www.kalamazoorestaurantweek.com/chili-cook-off.
More restaurant events will begin during Kalamazoo Restaurant Week from January 31 – February 9.
